This weekend marks the beginning of summer, but let’s not forget the real reason we celebrate Memorial Day: to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedom.
Here are a few events being held in Frederick County to remember our devoted soldiers.
May 24-26: Last Full Measure of Devotion
Monocacy National Battlefield will offer programs on the history of Memorial Day and host a flag display in honor of those soldiers who fell during the Battle of Monocacy. Volunteers are needed to place 2,200 Union and Confederate flags the morning of May 24. 8:30 a.m–5 p.m.

May 24, 2014: Memorial Day and Ice Cream Social
Fun for the little ones! Enjoy free ice cream, patriotic music & activities. Kids can decorate bikes, scooters, strollers & skateboards and join the kids’ parade. Toiletry donations for troops are being accept from 11 a.m – 2 p.m.

May 25: A Walk through Memorial Park
A walking tour through Memorial Park to discuss the history of the park, Memorial Day and the monuments in the park. The tour will take approximately 45 minutes. This is the 15th year of this event. Meet at the Ten Commandments monument at 10am.
